A new bench, a new painting and a freshly sheathed roof

My birthday was earlier this month and I'm not ashamed to say I was pretty spoiled. My parents bought me a bench I'd been eyeing up for our entry, and Josh got me a spectacular painting for our living room.

The bench arrived a few days before my birthday and Josh quickly assembled it for me. It's the Dylan Bench from CB2. It fits the space perfectly (the closet door can still open all the way) and, as my mom says, it's a good height for those who aren't as sprightly as they used to be (I paraphrase). As a bonus, if we need extra seating at the dining table, we can pull the bench over for two extra spots.

The painting Josh bought me is by my aunt, Mary Lottridge. It just arrived at the door yesterday and I felt like a kid on Christmas morning. If you know me, you know I love colour, and this will add a nice, juicy jolt of it to the living room wall.

Entitled, "HaHaHa," it's an acrylic piece on a masonite cradle. We plan to hang it on the wall shown below. I love that I don't have to shell out hundreds of dollars at Michael's to have it framed -- the painting wraps around the cradle so no framing is required. For more of Mary's work, check out her website:

Lastly, a quick update on the green roof. The EPDM membrane has been added, so here's how it looks today. There are just a few more steps to go before we start planting. Josh and I plan to stain a lot of cedar in the next few days. Once it's dry, we'll add it to this side of the garage (horizontally). The other sides will be stucco.
