What things cost

Last month I did a post about reupholstering an antique bench handed down to me from my parents.  In my usual procrastinating fashion, I didn't end up picking a fabric and asking for a quote until a few weeks ago.

I already knew that the labour would cost $75, a foam insert $15 and that the fabric started at $35/yard.  What I didn't know was that I have very expensive taste when it comes to fabric.

I assumed that as the fabrics started at $35/yard, it couldn't get too out-of-control.

I was wrong.

The above fabric was priced at $283.60 per yard.  Which is about $233.60 more than I imagined.  It was sadly out of my snack bracket.  I can't even fathom someone needing to buy several yards of say, reupholster a larger piece of furniture, or to make curtains with.  Yikes.

So I'm back to square one...trying to find an equally awesome print without breaking the bank.  I'm a huge fan of David Hick's La Fiorentina pattern below, but wouldn't be surprised if it's just as horrifically priced.

Will report back with my findings!
