From Russia with Love

For some reason, this blog has been really big in Japan Russia this week - with over 140 visits from people in the Russian Federation.  I have no idea why that is, as I haven't been writing about vodka or caviar.   But I do find it interesting that the numbers have surpassed the U.S. and Canada.

For me, Russia conjures up images of James Bond, Saint Basil's Cathedral and the upcoming 2014 Olympics in Sochi (my husband really wants to go).  But most of all, it reminds me of the set of matryoshka dolls I had when I was little.  My set included just four nesting dolls but provided hours of entertainment.

Matryoshkas have been popping up everywhere in the last couple of years, in both fashion and decor.  Here are some of my favorite uses of the theme:

Urban Outfitter's Matryoshka bedding
The company also sells a matching pillow...might be overkill

Thomas Paul also came out with his own design, for pillows and plates

LOVE this cute baby quilt from SewnNatural on Etsy (based in Ottawa)

Another cute Etsy find

It's not just you and I who love these adorable, space-saving, dolls. Toddlers love putting them together and taking them apart. If you have any interest in these, or other Russian-related ideas, let me know and I'll put you in touch with friends who have just gone to teach at an American school in Moscow. Wowzers!

Wowzers is right! If they're still there in 2014 I'll get you to pass along their contact as Josh is pretty hell bent on seeing the Olympics in person. Maybe you Jones' could join us!
