Kitchen Cupboard Conundrum

As I mentioned in an earlier post, we finally received our Ikea cabinets. We bought cabinets to make a peninsula where the wall came down, and bought new doors to replace the existing cathedral *cringe* cupboard doors. We should have seen the writing on the wall when the Ikea employee who sold them to us said, 'sometimes the measurements we provide you aren't spot on'...or something to that effect. You could say we were forewarned, but we like to think that Ikea would know how to provide proper measurements of their products, and if they were off a milimetre or two we could deal.

What we couldn't deal with were measurements so off that Josh felt like he was putting together a puzzle trying to figure out which door went with which cupboard. It wasn't possible to even fake it with creative adjustments, we had to return them.

Now the peninsula has nice white shaker style doors and the left side still has those passé cathedral doors. Josh thinks people won't notice - but I beg to differ...

Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, I give you.....Exhibit A

Exhibit B...nice new shaker doors (minus the handles)

I think people might just see the difference.  At least a woman will see the difference.  We had some friends over this weekend - the two men didn't notice, the woman did but was too polite to say anything until we asked.

As Josh is satisfied with the cupboards, it's up to me to find a company that makes custom cabinet doors that match the Ikea ones in the peninsula. It would be nice to find Ikea style pricing but I doubt that's in the cards.
